Nkonkoni is a fisherman's camp that dreams are made of. All the creature comforts one would ever need wrapped in the ruggedness of the unspoilt Maputaland bushveld, on the shores of Lake Pongola. Nkonkoni Tiger Fishing Camp is uniquely nestled in the Pongola Biosphere and is part of a bird sanctuary.

Please note the boat launch site is less than 1km away from the camp.

Central Location

Nkonkoni Tiger Fishing Camp is centrally poised, close to many sort-after destinations. One can take a day trip into Swaziland, or go salt-water fly-fishing at Kosi Bay, and still arrive there for breakfast. The options are endless, with several KZN game parks and Maputaland jewels waiting to be explored, all within a reasonable driving distance.

Game Viewing

A stones-throw from Nkonkoni Tiger Fishing Camp is our water hole, a favourite stop-off for the whole range of wild animals and birds. As the tranquillity of evening looms, enjoy the sounds of the bush with sundowners, while reminiscing over the day's encounters, with the mighty Tiger fish. Night drives will bring you up close to the Biosphere's diverse wild life, or take time out from fishing and soak in the wild life from the comfort of a boat.

Bird Watching

Nkonkoni is home to a bird sanctuary, and is a bird watchers paradise. Species range from the migrating water birds to the birds of the bush veld.

Tiger Fishing

The real treasure is the Tiger fish, which have become prolific in the Pongola Lake, reaching in excess of 8kgs. This has attracted the rods of sport fishermen from across Southern Africa over the last few years. And recently it has become a premier fly-fishing venue, with the powerful Tiger and 27 other fish species testing your skill and equipment.

Our spacious layout and common dining facilities in the boma turn those African evenings into a social event to remember. So if it is a Potjie over the boma fire or a continental breakfast, the open-air kitchen caters for your every need.
